Business Structure and Operations
Metro Compactor Service Inc. is Canada’s leading expert in the servicing, manufacturing, and distribution of waste and recycling equipment. Our operations span four core business lines: Metro Compactor, Wilkinson Chutes, Automatic Compactors, and ISMART. Our services cover multiple industries, including retail, industrial, hospitality, healthcare, and multi-residential sectors.
Supply Chains
We maintain direct procurement relationships with 16 material suppliers located across Canada, the United States, and China. We primarily source components such as steel, electronics, safety gear, and replacement parts used in the manufacture and servicing of waste handling equipment.
Policies
We have implemented the following key internal policies:
– Prevention of Child and Forced Labour Policy
– Employee Code of Professional Conduct
– Safe Disclosure and Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination Policy
– Supplier Code of Conduct (newly introduced)
– Supplier Questionnaire (phased rollout)
These policies are reinforced in our revised Employee Handbook and are reviewed regularly to ensure alignment with evolving legal and ethical standards.
Due Diligence and Risk Assessment
Metro has implemented several due diligence measures, including:
– Risk Assessment: Utilizing the Walk Free Global Slavery Index and U.S. Department of Labor’s list of at-risk goods.
– Country Analysis: Identifying China as a higher-risk region for procurement; 97% of spend remains in Canada and the U.S.
– Goods Risk Review: Highlighting potential risks in categories such as steel, electronics, and gloves.
– Vendor Contracts: Supplier attestation and alignment with our Code of Conduct are required for high-spend vendors.
Training and Awareness
All Metro managers and procurement team members completed certified training on forced and child labour prevention under Canadian law. Onboarding of new hires includes orientation on ethical labour practices and employee rights, supported by ongoing monthly sessions and handbook reviews.
Assessing Effectiveness
Metro actively monitors policy effectiveness through:
– Incident tracking (zero-tolerance for harassment, discrimination, or misconduct)
– Employee training completion tracking
– Policy audits and updates
– Supplier monitoring and annual risk-based reviews
– Performance evaluations and supplier visits where appropriate
Remediation
No cases of forced or child labour were identified during the reporting period. Should any incident arise, Metro is prepared to take immediate remedial action in accordance with our policies and applicable legislation, including remediation of income loss for affected individuals and disengagement from non-compliant suppliers.
